All-Star Break Fun: A Baseball Movie, Fantasy Pick, And New Record!

It’s the All-Star break so here are three baseball-related items Punky G. wants to share with you.

1. Be sure to catch “The Battered Bastards of Baseball” a gem of a documentary currently available on NetFlix. Directed by Chapman Way and McClain Way, this little film is more fun than going to a ball game! It’s all about baseball and features the independently owned Portland Mavericks of the 1970s. Starring Kurt Russell and more. Punky G. gives it Nine-Stars!

2. With the 3rd supplemental pick in the 45th Annual Cabell Draft / Tim Farley All-Star Break Bench Selection I took Devin Mesoraco C with the Cincinnati Reds. I wasn’t looking for a catcher but with a season-ending injury to Matt Weiters, I needed someone behind the plate. Did I draft the second coming of Johnny Bench? Only time will tell but this rookie is already a big league All-Star and is putting up some impressive numbers.

3. And finally, Punky G. would be remiss if we didn’t mention the record breaking feat of two grand slams in the last game before the All-Star break by Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner. NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL have the starting catcher and pitcher hit grand slams in the same game. Two Giants making all-time, MLB history. Congrats to Buster Ballgame, and Mad-Bum!! P.S. KNBR’s Duane Kuiper’s dramatic calls of both blasts also should be in the Baseball Broadcaster’s Hall of Fame. WOW! & POW!

And on that note, Punky G. is “outta’ here!” Enjoy the second half of the season.
